I’ve always had a soft spot for the 808 State show on Sunset 102, the Manchester-based radio station that helped soundtrack a pivotal moment in dance music history. It was one of those programmes that opened the door to records you’d never hear anywhere else, sitting somewhere between house, techno and the emerging rave scene.
Movin’ Mountains is inspired by that era and those late-night broadcasts from Sunset 102. The mix pulls together some of the sounds that were pushing dance music forward in 1990 and 1991, featuring artists such as The Shamen, Digital Boy and Renegade Soundwave.
Less hands-in-the-air rave, more heads-down underground. The sort of records that sounded futuristic then and still sound fresh today.
Enjoy.
